Racial and Racist

I love my family more than other relatives because I know my family are the one who really love me. I love my relatives more than my neighbor because I know my relatives love me more than my neighbor does. It is very natural. I don’t believe anybody in his right mind is against these progressive levels of fondness. Basically, we love whoever who deserved our love. We try to become deserving of their love by being lovely ourselves and by loving them (regardless of who they are, or what race he/she is). Loving someone who doesn’t deserve our love will only bring disappointment. One of the most important attributes of a successful person is he/she knows who to trust, and who are the individuals who really loves him/her.

Being racial is different from being racist. It is natural to be racial, just like it is natural to love our family more than anybody else. It doesn’t mean we will then treat other races as competitors or enemies, as opposed to racism. Racism means tribe mentality. Different races have different cultures. It is natural to prefer dealing with people whom you know (evil or otherwise) than people whom you don’t know (who may be good but you always worry if he/she will get offended for something which you do or neglect to do); especially when some people demand everybody to respect their sensitivity and are easily offended even if you did nothing, or get offended exactly because you did nothing. But that doesn’t mean we cannot work together professionally.Boon Kuan Chung’s answer to I’m a non-practicing Muslim man who lives in America. However, I feel uneasy with religious Muslims and atheists. Their views make me vomit. How can I avoid people wearing a hijab? How can I avoid atheist maniacs?

Chinese culture does not belong to people of Chinese country. Chinese culture belong to all civilized people of the world. Everybody can become a Chinese. Everybody can become a Chinese.

Races are defined by their culture more than their bloodlines. There were hundreds of races in ancient China but they all became Chinese voluntarily or involuntarily. Barbarians who conquered the Han Chinese admired the culture and voluntarily chose to adopt Chinese culture. Of course, there were resistance from their people but they eventually followed their Kings. No barbarians had ever ruled China for a period of more than 100 years; they were either defeated and pushed back to where they came from, or they became Chinese themselves. Han Chinese have never forced anybody to adopt Chinese culture. A good product will naturally attract people to buy it and does not need much marketing efforts, and definitely does not need to force people to buy it.

There are officially more than 50 races in China today. However, at the same time, many proudly identified themselves as Chinese and adopted Chinese culture. You can be Uyghur or Manchu but also Chinese at the same time. If you believe in diversity, you will never force anybody to assimilate to your culture. Zeal for unity is uncalled for. The people are already united when everybody lives peacefully and harmoniously together without coercion towards someone else to “respect the sensitivity of other races”. You cannot make a music with just one tone. Even in a country with monolithic culture and have only one race/language does not guarantee peace and prosperity.

Some Chinese Malaysians have more fondness towards China because they believe that is where they will get more love than the people in Malaysia. They believe the people of their kind deserved their love more than Malaysians who are unkind to them. That doesn’t mean they don’t love their country (Malaysia) where they were born, and where their family and relatives reside in. That doesn’t mean they are not patriotic. That doesn’t mean they are Nationalistic towards China or they prefer to become a citizen of China. We must take ownership of our country; we own this country together. The government must make the people feel a sense of ownership, not just a sense of belonging.

All generalizations are wrong, including this one. What I say here does not represent the feeling of all Chinese Malaysians. Chinese Malaysians are not a monolithic entity; there are good and bad people in any races, there are rich and poor people in any races. We must not stereotype any particular race. There are individuals of other races whom I love. We must never hate anybody whom we don’t know personally just because he/she is from another race.
